Astro Boy, known in Japan as Mighty Atom, is a fictional character featured in a manga series written and illustrated by Osamu Tezuka from 1952 to 1968.
The character gained significant popularity through the 1960s animated TV series *Astro Boy*, the first popular animated Japanese television series that embodied the aesthetic that later became familiar worldwide as anime.
Astro Boy is an android with a human-like appearance, created by Doctor Tenma to replace his deceased son. Possessing super strength, the ability to fly, and other extraordinary abilities, he fights crime and injustice.
He reappeared in a 2009 movie called Astro Boy.
